Memorial Event for Dr Pam
Whiteley & Mrs Nicola Smith
The main hall at Wayland Community High School was packed with staff
& pupils
standing for the dedication of a memorial garden to celebrate the lives
of Dr Pam Whiteley and
Mrs Nicola Smith who died in September after years of unstinting service
to the students of the school.
The Headteacher, Michael Rose introduced the Rev Canon Mair Talbot.
John Briton read a poem and Deputy Headteacher Trefor Parry gave a
eulogy to remember
the enormous contribution the two teachers had made to the school over
many years.
Students Jade Brown, Helen Samuels and Alesha Cook sang a song called
'The Brightest Star'
especially written for the occasion by Jade. Then followed the dedication
by Canon Talbot.
The very emotional event was attended by Simon Whiteley and James and
Elizabeth, two
of Dr Whiteley's three children. Unfortunately Matthew
Smith was unable to attend.
Two trees, a winter flowering cherry and a summer flowering cherry,
named Pamela and Nicola,are
to be planted in the remembrance garden where two seats dedicated to
the teachers have been placed.
