Allan Cunningham, a Royal Air Force Technician, raised
£130 for the Wings Appeal when
he recently made a parachute jump from 12,000 feet over
Old Buckenham airfield.
Allan is a member of 15 Squadron, part of the Royal Air
Force Regiment stationed at
Honington. As the appointed Liaison Officer to
the Watton Branch of the
Royal Air Forces Association he made the jump as a farewell
gesture on learning
that he is to move on to further his career elsewhere
in the service. During the drop
he reached a speed of 120 mph before operating the canopy.
The Wings appeal
is a charity dedicated to helping those in need who have
associations with the
Royal Air Force as a serving or ex serving member, or
who are or have been
dependents of serving members. Fund raising activities
attain a high public
prominence in September of each year when street collections
are made
marking the second world war feats of the Royal Air Force
during the
Battle of Britain in 1940. Allan is shown presenting
the cheque to Watton
RAFA chairman Mr Roy Strachan in front of the memorial
to forces
Airmen at the now defunct Royal Air Force station Watton.
