Some years ago the Buscall Shield was handed to the Sports
Centre for safekeeping.
The shield had been used for winners of a swimming competition
run by the Loch Neaton
Swimming Club from the turn of the last century. Above
is a picture of Frederick Harry
Crook who won the shield in 1911. Also is the medal he
won the previous year, 1910.
The picture shows the trophy with 11 winners shields
and it now has 22.
Mr Crook was born in December 1892 in Tottington and
spent most of his life in
London and Watford where he ran a grocers shop. He died
in June 1953.
His great grandson, Roger Johnson, supplied the photos
and information.
